Safety mechanisms

Gate automation systems can be installed on a fully automatic or semi-automatic basis. Fully automatic gates would close automatically after a pre-defined pause time. Semi-automatic systems would require a command to open, and would then stay open until a second command was received to close. Generally speaking we would say that semi- automatic systems, do not require safety circuits, as it would be the responsibility of the person operating the gates to ensure the range of the gates was clear. When we install fully automatic systems we would as a minimum install an infer-red beam across the drive just in front of the gates. This would stop the gates closing when the beam was being broken. If the space behind the gates were also restricted we would look to install other safety mechanisms, either additional infer-red beams or ground loop detectors. As a fail-safe we always install an automation system with the minimum amount of force necessary to reliably operate the gates. In this way even if the gate does hit an obstacle the amount of damage (if any) will be restricted.
